SAVANNAH - Mr. Edgar Frank Meyer, 81, died Wednesday, August 15th, 2012, at Spanish Oaks Retreat after an extended illness. Ed and his twin brother Richard B. Meyer were born November 11, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York to Bertha and Frank Meyer. He was a graduate of Roslyn High School, class of 1948. He attended Hofstra University for business classes. He served in US Army and was stationed in Germany. He returned and married his high school sweetheart, Jeanne Cheshire Meyer, in 1954, who preceded him in death in 2009.
He was employed by Union Camp and retired after 45 years of service. During their marriage, he was very active in the Wilmington Park Homeowners Association, Southside Fire Department Board and was a founding member of Saint Francis of the Islands Episcopal Church. Ed and his wife enjoyed taking cruises and visiting many ports of call around the world. He was an avid gardener. Ed could always be found on Tybee Island or Sannibel, Florida searching for shells. Many summers were spent on Hilton Head Island with his family.
Surviving are his brother Richard B. Meyer of Sun City, South Carolina; daughter Susan Meyer Walls and her husband Gene; daughter Carolyn Meyer Simmons; son Kenneth John Meyer and his wife Nancy, all of Savannah, GA. Grandchildren include Bonnie Gentry and her husband Brian, of Rossville, GA, Shawn Walls, Corey Meyer, Megan Meyer, Ashley Simmons and Lauren Simmons all of Savannah, GA. Great grandchildren include Ja'nice Mendez, Elias Gentry, and Jordan Gentry of Rossville, GA. He has several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the caregivers at Spanish Oaks Retreat and Hospice for their loving care.
A Memorial Service and Interment will be held at Saint Francis of the Islands Episcopal Church in the Memorial Gardens, Sunday August 19th at 2 pm. Fr. Stephen Norris will officiate.
The family suggests any remembrances be made in his memory to St. Francis of the Islands Church, 590 Walthour Rd., Savannah, GA 31410.
